I was in the company of Clark Langley -- physician, musician, photographer, Beemer rider, nice guy -- headed into downtown Houston. We were going to one of those "geezer concerts" so popular right now, in this case a Crosby, Stills and Nash concert at Bayou Center.
As I said, Clark's a photographer. We were putting along at about 70 mph in heavy afternoon traffic on US 59 north of our exit when he eased up alongside me, pointed westward toward the setting sun and made the universal sign for "I've got to stop and take photo."
I nodded. he pulled over onto the shoulder of the highway, unlatched a side case, pulled out his Canon and started taking pix. He took his sunset shot, then turned the camera toward me.
In this picture, I'm not looking at Clark. I'm looking at an approaching wall of vehicles, coming my direction at about 70 miles per hour. And I'm wondering if I'll last as long as the fading light across the freeway.
I'll scrounge a copy of the sunset photo and post it here. It's damned good. And we both survived so I guess it was worth a couple of minutes of extreme anxiety.
sidenote: The ride to Houston was about as hot as you'd expect an August ride to Houston to be.
